I had to get used to the idea that I might be in a cast for a long time when doctors told me my broken scaphoid bone might not be healing 6 months after the injury. The plaster casts were very restrictive and couldn’t be cleaned properly as any trapped moisture could cause bacteria to grow leading to odour, itching and possible infection.
I was restricted in many ways with the cast as I am right handed but the biggest downer for me was that I couldn’t go running or training because it would trap too much perspiration. It really made me appreciate what my body was capable of.
The most loyal thing in the world to you is not your friends, your family, your colleagues or your dog. It’s your body.
The most loyal thing in the world to you is not your friends, your family, your colleagues or your dog. It’s your body. You push it to its limits and it does everything it can to keep you alive and healthy. We deprive it of sleep, pump it with caffeine, and ignore it when it is trying to tell us something. Perhaps I can do something for my loyal friend… to be continued.
