DP’s John Moriarty is involved in the building of two Currachs in a team led by Artist and Boat Builder Mark Redden.
The build site and future home of these boats is the East Wall Water Sports Centre in Dublin’s historic docklands. The community centre is situated on the water’s edge the river Tolka´s estuary, where recently salmon returned to spawn after an absence of more than 100 years. The workshop is open to the community to visit and to see a Connemara Currach take shape.

The two currachs were launched from Dublin’s, East Wall on January 7th 2012 with the Irish President Micheal D. Higgins in attendence to celebrate the event. Eoin Murphy captured the launch with the beautiful video below.
