The Gramiphone concept unites the earliest audio technology – the iconic speaker horn from a gramophone circa 1890 and wind instruments inspired by the use of goat’s horns circa the stone age – and the most recent technology – the almost magical slab shaped MP3 players.
Designs like this rarely come out of the typical detailed project briefing. There’s a spontaneous quality to the Gramiphone which comes from doodling and exploring at a distance from constraints, deadlines and requirements.
Sometimes you need to think and design like a sculptor – with freedom – playing with the fundamental nature of things, striving to express something from the soul, creating a story from the heart of what an object signifies.
